Senior Night is a long-standing tradition to commemorate seniors and their impact left on LWC and their sport. It is a night that athletes look forward to throughout their entire high school athletic career. Many fall sports have celebrated their seniors over the past couple weeks, such as swimming and diving, boys soccer, girls dance and football. Senior swimmer Angelina Platos was asked what her favorite part of her October 9th Senior Night was and she shares, “Definitely the team dynamic and all the support we got. It ranged from all of our families and even students coming.” Senior Night is an amazing opportunity for friends and families to show their support for athletes as they enter their next chapter of life. Boys soccer goalie Josh DeMik says, “The most important part of Senior Night for athletes and families is reflecting back on all of the memories related to the sport and how it has shaped you as a person.” Senior diver Flynn Meyer reveals her favorite LWC dive memories when she expresses, “This group has made me love the sport like no other, and I am forever grateful for all the laughs I have had this season on deck.”
Senior Night is an opportunity for seniors to appreciate each other and relish in the memories that their athletic career has brought. It is something that will be cherished for life. Sports are something that take a large part of many kids’ lives growing up and senior night is a tribute to the lessons learned and relationships formed through sports. Senior dancer Nori Blasidell reflects, “As a senior on the Poms team, when my career is over, the thing I will remember most about competing at LWC will be the feeling of pride and fulfillment after nailing a routine on the floor with my teammates.” Senior football player Jalen Byrd says, “My favorite part about Senior Night was getting to spend time and play a game with my brothers that I’ve been around since I was a kid. Senior Night was the representation of a bond between a big family.” Senior Night is a special event where the Lincoln-Way Central community celebrates the true meaning of sports and how it shapes peoples’ lives. It is important to attend these events because the seniors appreciate every person that has been involved in their sports journey. Senior night is magical to watch because the love between the athletes and their sport can be felt everywhere.
