Centralpalooza: A week full of bright colors, upbeat music, spirit days, competing, dancing, singing, and Friday night lights! Central had a great week filled with spectacular activities for homecoming week. The week fired off on Monday by having a blast at Homecoming Olympics. Students formed groups of about 8 to 12 students and were accompanied by a teacher who was their sponsor. The teams participated in activities like obstacle courses, a dunk tank, relay races, and tug of war. Every team had an amazing run and played for the enjoyment of homecoming. On Tuesday, the school hosted Road to Reality which is a beneficial learning experience for students that creates a realistic scenario of drunk driving and its consequences. Students helped organize this event and even act in the scenarios. The event was a success! Homecoming week continued with multiple spirit days (more to come on this later)! During lunch hours students got the opportunity to jam out to some music, as the school provided a DJ. The energy during homecoming week was very high and got many students excited for the dance.
The week did not end there… Friday was a great day! On Friday morning, Central had their pep assembly to prepare for the weekend. Students and teachers performed dances and lip syncs, and the Knightmares organized a relay race between classes with awards given out. Friday could not have been a better day. The Knights had a quick turn-around after school and headed over to the stadium. It was now time for Friday Night Lights! The football team secured the homecoming win against Bradley-Bourbonnais and students were ecstatic; it had been a wonderful night for athletes and students.
Throughout the week, each day consisted of a different spirit day. Students participated in spirit days like concert merch day, class color day, anything but a water bottle day, soccer mom’s vs barbeque dad’s day, and finally a day full of knight pride merch. Spirit days uplift the teachers and students, which gets them pumped up for a wonderful homecoming dance. Knightmare of the Week for week #1, Natalia Fares, talks about the importance of spirit days and states: “Spirit days are so important because the more people who participate, the more fun it is! Having most of the school dress up in the silly spirit days that we have make hoco week so much fun, and they always lead up to Knight Pride day on Fridays that gets us hyped for the game!” Not only are school spirit days something to dress up for, but they also represent the importance of school spirit. Lincoln-Way Central is lucky to have a phenomenal student section, “The Knightmares,” who never fail to bring the energy to sporting or school events. The homecoming game was a blast! The stand was filled with neon colors, glow sticks, balloons, and an amazing halftime relay race. The football team played a great game against Bradley Bourbonais, as well as cheer and dance having amazing performances. Senior cheerleader, Cara Fallucca, talks about the energy of the game and says, “The homecoming game had so much fun energy throughout the whole game. The student section was super involved in the game and activities during halftime. Being on the sidelines is so much fun, especially for a game like this. It’s so easy to feed off the football players’ excitement when a big play is made.” Cara also discussed her favorite part of the week and said, “The best part of the entire homecoming week is Friday morning when the pep assembly starts. There are so many fun games and performances going on, it makes you feel so excited for the dance and gets the spirits high for Friday Night Lights. I love performing in front of the school and the homecoming assembly is extra special because the energy is so high.” What an absolute blast Monday-Friday was… Students packed the stands at the football game and brought great sprit to the week itself.
On Saturday, Centralpalooza finally arrived! Students wore their formal attire and danced the night away. The field house was packed with stunning decorations from student council. The DJ was amazing and got the students pumped up! Music was playing and students danced the night away. Everyone had an amazing time at the dance and throughout the week.
