Mrs. Koesche has worked for district 210 for several years, first starting out at Lincoln-Way East. She has worked at Central for seven years, but she has not always been a librarian. Mrs. Koesche started out as an English teacher, but felt she needed a change from the classroom. Her love of reading and her knack for interacting with kids made her the perfect candidate for a librarian at Central. Her 3-year-old daughter also enjoys reading. Mrs. Koesche read to her daughter as an infant, but decided to “let her pick up on it” as she got older. “She loves the ‘Fancy Nancy’ books. She’s also into ‘Pinkalicious’”. When asked what book she recommends most to students, Mrs. Koesche says “’13 Reasons Why’ is probably the most popular, and we have a lot of copies of it. Students always tell us how much they liked it.” When asked what her personal favorite book is, Mrs. Koesche said “The Last Lecture” because it had an upbeat perspective on life. Helping and working with students is Mrs. Koesche’s favorite part of her job, which is why she’s one of the first people to go to when you’re in need of a good book.
Mrs. Koesche isn’t Central’s only librarian. Mrs. Sargis has worked for the district for 12 years. She first met Mrs. Koesche at East, but has been at Central for ten years. Mrs. Sargis started out as a Special Ed teacher, but also felt the need for a change. She wanted to work with more students, helping kids find their favorite books, which led her to the LWC library. Mrs. Sargis’s sons have gone to Central, with one graduating in 2016. Though Mrs. Sargis loves to read, she reveals that is was her husband that read to their kids, reading books like “Goosebumps” to the boys. She says that her kids also enjoyed books like “Maximum Ride” as they got older. While the book she recommends most to students is “Velocity”, her favorite book is “Never Knowing” she says, because of its mystery and suspense. Mrs. Sargis comments that her favorite part of working in the library is “helping students who come to me and say, ‘I don’t read’ and helping them find their favorite book, and finding others they want to read too.”
Next time you’re in the library on the hunt for a good read, talk to Mrs. Koesche and Mrs. Sargis. With programs like Book Club, Read for a Lifetime, and many more, you’ll be sure to discover your new favorite book.
