Trust, toughness, togetherness

“Trust, toughness, togetherness.“ This has been the motto ringing through the hallways of Lincoln-Way Central ever since the football team started preseason work in July. All of this was implemented by the new addition to the coaching staff, the head coach, Jeremy Cordell.

Cordell has become a Knight for the Central football community and joined with big hopes to restore the winning tradition of Lincoln-Way Central football. Though the team focuses on practices day-by-day and wins game-by-game, the expectations for the season are for the team to be playing November football.

Cordell’s football experience began with playing the game himself in high school. Adding to his experience, he played both on the offense and defense at the positions of quarterback and defensive linebacker in high school. He later played at the safety position in college at Illinois State. His coaching days started in Rockford, Illinois, where he was the positions coach. The team did well and Cordell moved up the coaching ranks, but before he got to a head position, he accepted an opportunity at Glenbard West high School. Here he helped to turn a losing team into a team constantly able to get over 500. He then moved to Glenbard South to the head coach positing, and he turned their losing program into one that played deep into the playoffs four out of five of the following years he was there.

With a history of turning around programs, Cordell is poised to turn the Knights into a team poised to return to the playoffs. The positivity and the team atmosphere will certainly carry the football team, at least program-wise, if not win-wise, much further than in recent seasons.
