At the end of this month, September 26-28, the Lincoln-Way District theater kids will come together to perform the Tony Award-winning musical, Guys and Dolls at Lincoln-Way East.
Last year, all three Lincoln-Way schools performed their first show together with Hadestown: Teen Edition, which went on to win the Best Production Award at the 2025 Illinois High School Musical Theater Awards (IHSMTA), along with having two students nominated for individual acting awards, highlighting the power in the unity of our district.
The original 1951 Broadway production of Guys and Dolls won five Tony Awards, and the 1992 Broadway revival received four. Set in 1940s New York City, the musical follows two main storylines. On one hand, we follow a gambler named Sky Masterson as he chases after a missionary, Sarah Brown, on a bet. On the other, Nathan Detroit, the man who started Sky’s bet, searches for a safe place to host his illegal craps game (a type of gambling game). He simultaneously tries to avoid marrying his fiancée of 14 years, Miss Adelaide. The musical explores themes of morality, commitment, American culture, redemption, and the transformative nature of love.
Carter Bruley, a LWC student playing Liver Lips Louie in our district’s adaptation, says, “What I love about performing as a district is getting to do a show with all my friends at all the schools. They are all so talented and a great group that I get to act and sing alongside.”
Also, according to Carter, Guys and Dolls is a very dance-heavy musical, so the cast is excited for audiences to see all the enthusiasm they’ve been putting into the choreography. Anyone interested should go out and support these hard-working Lincoln-Way students September 26th-28th!
