The Knights had another successful Special Games this year! The athletes showed up with their best efforts and red gear for the highly anticipated day, decked out in colorful charm bracelets on each wrist to align with the Taylor Swift Eras theme.
Last Friday, the spirit of camaraderie and joy was on full display as the Knights athletes took part in the Special Games hosted at Lincoln-Way West High School. The event brought together students from all Lincoln-Way schools for a day filled with athletic competition, laughter and unforgettable memories. The morning started off bright and early as athletes paraded through Lincoln-Way Central dressed in full Knights gear, determination and excitement radiating through the halls. Led by members of the LWC band, the athletes marched through the halls, excited and energized, before heading to Lincoln-Way West for friendly competition.
Throughout the day, the Knights participated in a variety of events including races, kickball, bowling and bag tosses. From the Cha Cha Slide to limbo, the athletes showed off their versatility and talents. Each event was met with enthusiastic cheers from teammates and spectators alike. While the Knights did not bring home the overall trophy, the Knights’ determination and sportsmanship was evident in every race and every game. Through this energy and confidence, however, a victory was achieved by the Knights athletes, as they embodied the true spirit and purpose of the Special Games. Laughter and smiles were contagious on the field as athletes and peer leaders burst into dance and song between every event, truly highlighting the importance of memories and team building over competition and inner-district rivalry.

When we asked Nathan Collins, a very active member of the Knights team, what his favorite memory from Special Games was, he said that “I loved doing the relay race, I believed in myself and knew that I could run really fast.” Nathan told us that he loves Special Games because he “loves marching in the hallways and loves dressing up as a superhero while helping the team win.” Looking back on the positivity and joy that permeated the air last Friday, the Knights’ spirits and gameplays truly provided warmth and brightness on the chilly day, and the athletes surely showed up to “Shake It Off” in “Style!”
