On Sunday, April 27th the LWC Girls varsity soccer team took home the Body Armor championship in a 2-0 victory over Warren. This win was a whole team effort that took everybody top to bottom. Assistant coach Chris Fetherling, exclaims, “I am so proud of these girls and how hard they worked to get here. We have a really special group this year.”
This tournament has a long-standing tradition that the winning teams do a Coca-Cola spray. Goalkeeper Flynn Meyer, laughs, “We were so sticky on the way home! But other than that, the whole entire day is a memory I will never forget.” Meyer secured a clean sheet in goal and was given an award from the tournament titled “Clean Sheet Award.”
Additionally, the entire back line was organized and disciplined the entire game and worked relentlessly to keep Warren at 0. LWC goals were scored by Jules Rafacz and Miranda Melde. Flynn Meyer recalls, “It really just takes one or two plays to make a difference in the game. I am thankful for all of my teammates. This championship game really took every single person on and off the field to put their best game forward.” Sophomore defender, Aly Sudkamp, expresses, “The game was intense, but we all worked hard to reach our goal and everybody showed up with the right mindset to fight for this win.”
The Knights’ season is not over yet with just a few games left in the regular season before playoffs. Coach Fetherling says, “I cannot wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for us.”
