I think I speak for most when I say the Art Show is one of the coolest things at Lincoln-Way Central. Although the show is only in the library for around a week, it never fails to disappoint. Whether it’s paint, ceramic, colored pencil, photography, or graphite, there is always something amazing to look at. The art show isn’t only limited to seniors who have been in art throughout high school, but all people in any art class are chosen from to have their art on display. In the show, you could see beautifully detailed pieces such as buildings or flowers. Even if art isn’t typically your thing, there is always something around the corner in the art show that just might change your mind.
Most of the art show is put together by art teachers Ms. Buttala and Dr Raatjes they did an amazing job setting it up this year as they do every year. In the middle of the week, they give out awards to outstanding art pieces. During this award ceremony, family and friends were able to walk around and examine all the beautiful pieces. The biggest award, however, was received by Senior Kyra Krouse.
I had the honor of asking Kyra questions about what inspired her piece, which she explained that she tried to replicate the abandoned building from a picture she had taken. She then further explained that she was trying to create a piece that blended an illustrative and realistic style from a photo using paint, which is not her typical choice of medium. Throughout Kyra’s high school career, she has taken multiple art classes, those being: Art Fundamentals, regular and Advanced Drawing and Painting, and AP drawing. All these classes are offered here at Lincoln-Way Central if you are interested in pursuing art in high school.
Kyra’s plans after high school consist of attending JJC for architecture, but she still intends to pursue art in college. I asked Kyra if she had any advice for up incoming art students, to which she replied: “My advice would be to always try new things even if it’s intimidating. Taking AP Drawing forced me to go out of my comfort zone with different mediums and ideas, and I definitely think that it helped me grow as an artist!” I included Kyra’s piece in this article along with other outstanding pieces by other artists.
