It’s more than just a sport for these lady knights; water polo at Lincoln-Way Central embodies teamwork, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. The Lincoln-Way Central girls water polo team has been on a roll this season. The girls are constantly setting goals for themselves and continue to improve their athleticism. With each game, they have demonstrated the importance of commitment and teamwork. This team functions as a close-knit family, supporting each other in and out of the water!
The girls currently have a record of 19-4, with some huge wins. Recently the girls had taken home the Conference Champions title, which hasn’t been done in the past 6 years! This team had an amazing start and are always looking for improvement. Despite facing formidable opponents, the team consistently gives it their all. Senior Jaylyn Kucera discusses what she believes is the key to her team’s success this year, she says, “100% our team chemistry. Our team has a bond like no other, which really helps us strive in game play” (Jaylyn Kucera). This team has a bond like no other and treats one another like family. Jaylyn also describes her teams dynamic and how they support each other by saying, “The best way to describe our team bond is loving. Us girls as well as coaches treat one another like family. These girls are truly special and like sisters to me and each and every one of them are amazing and unique in the best of ways possible” (Jaylyn Kucera). This team has a bond like no other which allows them to play with the grit and confidence they play with. Girls water polo at Lincoln-Way Central is an environment filled with joy and love, and most importantly, the place to be.
The season is coming to an end and there are many high-stake games. These girls need all the support they can get. Let’s come together and support these girls as they are ending their season. The season has been going great for every individual on the team. Seniors, Claire Cann, Emily Ewanic, Tessa Nakos, Jaylyn Kucera, Sophia Gaier, Marissa Culver, and Molly Olson have contributed so much to the team in their past four years and were truly a great group of individuals. Taking the journalist perspective, I am one of the athletes who plays for the team and these girls have shown me what it is to be a strong and supportive teammate. I am not sure if I would have been shaped to be the person I am today without the support of my teammates, and I am beyond grateful I joined girls water polo. Thank you to these seniors for setting an example. Sectionals take place May 16th-17th, let’s bring the support!! Go Knights!
