The LWC Knightmares student section at basketball games is one of the best places to be: it’s packed with energy, school spirit, and cheering. Students unite to create a thrilling atmosphere. The excitement is felt in every big play, and when the Knights score, the student section roars! One of the most impressive things about the student section is their sportsmanship and respect for the opposing team and officials. It is rare to see a student section so energetic, but respectful as well. These games are so electric and enjoyable for all students and staff. Senior football star Blake Richards exclaims, “There is absolutely no better feeling than cheering on the boys as the play the sport they love.” Blake attends every basketball game, with a smile on his face! As a football player, he understands the impact of the crowd’s support. He says, “It is my goal to bring the same energy into this student section as there was for football in the fall.”
This year has been historical in the attendance of all sporting events thanks to the LWC Knightmares. Additionally, the Knightmares entered an IHSA video contest with their video that encompasses what it means to be a Knight. The video was shown to all students during an early release assembly and every student was reminded of the unique and loving community of Lincoln-Way Central. During this time of year, it is difficult for students to stay motivated and engaged in learning, but when they are reminded of what it means to be a Knight, they are inspired to keep focus. The energy that the Knightmares have brought into this school year, at both sporting events and in the classroom, has created a sense of community and belonging, allowing students to feel at home. Krysta Kowal, a member of the Knightmares, expresses, “It has been so much fun to film this video. This entire year has been filled with energy and the emphases on the Knightmares as a club has brought a new environment into LWC.” Krysta Kowal says, “I can’t wait to see how far our video goes. Regardless of if we win or not, I would never want to go to school anywhere else! I am so thankful to be apart of the LWC community and being a Knightmare makes me feel connected to the school and other students.”
This past Saturday, the Knightmares left the IHSA Student Section contest as State Champions. The Knightmares have given other schools a standard to aspire to in their student sections and continue to be a positive influence statewide. LWC is so proud of all their hard work and cannot wait to see what future years have in store!
