Sunday, March 2nd marked the 97th Oscars Award Ceremony. The night was glamorous: actors and actresses sported a multitude of colors and sparkles. Some notable outfits were Timothee Chalamet sporting a shimmering all-yellow suit and Ariana Grande sporting a “floating” Christian Siriano dress on the red carpet. This year, the Academy Awards saw a large number of star-studded celebrities nominated. These include: Kieran Culkin, Demi Moore, Timothee Chalamet, Cynthia Erivo, and Zoe Saldana. The Academy Awards were hosted by comedian Conan O’Brien, where he brought a glimpse of comedy to the rather melancholy lineup of movies this year. The movies nominated for Best Picture were: Wicked, The Substance, Anora, Dune: Part Two, Conclave, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Nickel Boys, and Emilia Perez. Most of these movies explored deeper themes and explored more mature topics. More than any year before, most movies nominated for best pictures consisted of other languages, which is significant due to the diverse perspectives that are now recognized by the Academy. Anora ended the night with an amazing five awards, most notably receiving the Oscar for best actress played by Mikey Madison as Anora, and Best Picture for the movie. Although many people thought Demi Moore should have received the award for Best Actress in a Starring Role, for her role in The Substance, she ironically lost to the youngest actress in the category. Unlike other years, the Academy Awards had little to no controversy and went smoothly throughout the night. In total, the Oscars ran for a total of three and a half hours.
