On January 29th, Lincoln-Way Central’s Future Business Leaders of America club held a blood drive at the New Lenox Village Hall. With each donation able to save 3 lives, the event was a huge success, and enough blood was collected to save a total of 150 lives.
The event lasted from 3-7pm and welcomed in appointments as well as walk-ins for blood donation. Members of the FBLA and volunteers with the Versiti organization managed the drive, ensuring that everything went smoothly and made sure to protect the health and safety of donors. Snacks and drinks were available on-site that donors had access to before leaving.
As a thank-you for their time and effort, each blood donor received a hat and a $20 gift card to a store of their choosing. Along with these incentives, student participation counted for either 4 community service hours or 3 National Honor Society service hours.
One student of Lincoln-Way Central who participated in the blood drive remarks, “The volunteers were really helpful and caring, and they made the experience less scary since it was my first time donating blood.”
The next opportunity to donate blood and support our school’s FBLA club will be on April 23rd, when they are sponsoring another blood drive at the New Lenox Village Hall.
