The Knight Cross Country teams have been on fire this season. For those who don’t know, Cross Country races are typically 3 miles and are held in both rain and shine. Our girls’ and boys’ team have both competed hard and constantly improved throughout their season. They competed all across the state in competitive invitationals and defended their position. While also having incredible runners, the teams have created amazing memories throughout the season. They have overcome injuries and have never given up. On their journey to qualify for the State Championships again, both teams excelled in their Regional Meet. All regional medalists Mia Forystek led the lady Knights, taking fourth place overall. The boys’ team also took 2nd place at the Lockport Regional Meet.
Sectionals followed and resulted in both teams qualifying to the IHSA State meet! In order to qualify for State, a team needs to finish among the top seven teams in their sectional or be in the top ten individual runners not on a qualifying team. The boys ended the meet placing 4th out of 18 teams. Jack Galmines placed 10th and earned All-Sectional Honors. The girl’s cross-country team took 6th place at their Sectionals in Normal! When asked about the varsity girls cross country team and her season, junior state qualifier Aubrey Shipman said, “The dynamic of the team this season is so close and means so much to me.”
The IHSA State Meet was an exciting time for the Lincoln-Way Central Knights. The girls ended their amazing season finishing 28th! Freshman superstar Keira Faxel worked hard this season and led the way with a 26 second PR, running 18:05. Our boys’ team placed 15th out of 28 teams, which was the 2nd highest finish as a team since 2001. All-State medalist Braden Hoff placed 19th overall with a time of 14:30, which placed him 5th on the all-time State list in Lincoln- Way’s State Meet history. Congratulations to all our amazing runners and all the hard work they put into the season!
