After the theater department’s resounding success in putting on the musical Mamma Mia in the spring, students wonder what will amaze them next from the LWC theater department. The answer? The much-anticipated production of Steel Magnolias is set to open on October 18th and 19th, bringing to life the beloved story of strength, love, and the unbreakable bonds of friendship among a group of Southern women.
This classic play invites audiences into the world of Truvy’s beauty salon, where laughter and tears intertwine as the women navigate the joys and heartaches of life. Carter Bruley, a cast member involved in many school productions remarks, “It connects to me personally because you need to have a group of friends, especially in high school, that will stick by you and help you out in the hardest times.” Clearly anyone can find a connection to the themes of friendship and companionship that the story exemplifies.
As an avid fan of the original movie, I personally am excited to see the cast’s portrayal of these important relationships and personal dramas. Although the actual Dolly Parton is not featured in the LWC staging of the play, I have no doubt that her essence and energy will be captured as well as the traits of so many other iconic characters. Keep your eyes peeled for this can’t miss play’s premiere day !
