The 2024 election is less than 365 days away. Which means campaigning, advertising, and stump speeches are in full swing. But what does the outcome of our next election mean for the state of our country?
Just last week another GOP candidate, Former Vice President Mike Pence dropped out of the race. As of November 3rd, nine of the original twenty-two candidates remain in the campaign. Of those remaining, only five could take part in the NBC Republican debate held on November 8th. The front-runner has stayed consistent, pretty much since 2020; it is almost certain that Former President Trump will be the 2024 nominee. According to a Republican primary poll from “FiveThirtyEight,” he is currently polling at a whopping 59.3%. The closest runner-up is conservative Florida governor Ron DeSantis with just under 13%.
On the Progressive side, current President Biden leads the polls. Why? Because there are few challengers running against him. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., nephew of President John F. Kennedy, was originally the closest runner up to Biden. However, on October 9th, he announced he was running as an Independent candidate. Besides them, author, speaker, and former 2020 Democratic candidate, Marianne Williamson, is running. Although the polls still place her close to 65 points behind the current president.
Obviously, there is a LOT going on in the world right now, between the two wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, rising crime, the influx of migrants, and increasing national debt, there is a lot at risk for this next election!
Adding layer to the plot is the fact that the top two candidates are both in scandals of their own. Trump has been indicted multiple times over his attempts to overturn the 2020 election and inciting the January 6th protest at the capitol. And Biden has recently been coming under fire for foreign business deals and accusations of cognitive decline. It’s almost a lose-lose situation.
Or will these even be our nominees? People always focus on the two mainstream parties but forget there is always the chance of a third-party or Independent candidate being nominated for presidency.
Whether you fall on the progressive or conservative side of the political spectrum, we can all agree that this election is going to have a huge impact on the trajectory of the United States and the world. There is so much at stake. People need to do their own, un-biased, research to pick the person who not only fits their values, but also the values of the American people.
