For the past twenty-two years, Lincoln-Way Central has sponsored families for the holidays. Central helps East families and East helps Central families. This tradition creates a sense of community as we all rally to help our friends and neighbors during the season of giving. Teachers and staff sponsor numerous families in need of a little extra help this holiday season. Teachers who sponsor clubs have their students bring in all kinds of gifts to ensure each family gets what they wish for.
Mrs. Knick is currently the leader of this initiative at Central. She feels very passionately about the change these gifts can make for a family in need and the brightness they give to the holiday season. She partners with Ms. Hnetkovsky, who has her Pre-Vet and Animal Science classes make fresh centerpieces for the families. These are always a huge hit and give a personal flare to this program.
This year, many of our teachers participated in this tradition including Mr. Hess, Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Hughs, Mrs. Opoka, Mrs. Korczak and so many more. Sometimes, extra families come forward and ask for some more help this holiday season and every time, our Lincoln-Way family rises to the occasion and helps fill the need. This truly exemplifies the generosity and love we have for our community.
Each sponsor typically has a “wrapping party” where students can work together and wrap the presents they brought for these families. This not only gets everyone into the holiday spirit before finals, but shows the true generousity and hard work our Lincoln-Way community puts into the Holiday Families every year.
