The Lincoln-Way Marching Band is an incredible sight to see and hear and as the years have gone by, the program has only expanded to bigger and better things. The past few years, our marching band has gone above and beyond, travelling, winning awards, and even performing in the Thanksgiving Macy’s Day Parade in 2022 and the 2023 Bands of America Super Regional at Lucas Oil Stadium! The band is known throughout the entire nation, and once you hear them performing, whether it be during halftime in a football game or in a competition, there is no question as to why.
Recently, it was revealed that our band was being selected to perform in the 2025 Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California! This is a huge accomplishment considering that 19 bands within the entire country are selected to be in the Rose Bowl, and only 9 of them are high school bands! Not only that, but this is the band’s 4th time going with the last time being in 2019! After asking about the process to get into the Rose Bowl, Mr. Mroczek highlighted, “The Lincoln-Way Marching Band completed an extensive application, which included submitting letters of recommendation and footage of the band performing and we were notified of our selection in September 2023. Selection to perform in the parade is a tremendous honor, and the students deserve all of the credit, especially the Seniors – Class of 2024!”
The beautiful music from the band and expert dancing from the color guard require hours of hard work and dedication. Those in Marching Band have to be willing to work hard on every day of the week and still balance schoolwork and outside life! Nina Contro, a percussionist in the LW Marching Band, revealed the rigorous hours of practice for band, stating, “In the summer we have camps in June and July and the one in June is about 12 hours a week for three weeks and the July one is about 40-50 hours a week for two weeks. We practice 4 days a week from 4:30-8:30 and play at home football games.” Everyone has heard the saying that hard work pays off, which is certainly the case for this incredible marching band!
