Somalia

Humanitarian crises are unfortunately very prevalent in the present day. One of these crises I’d like to touch upon is the detrimental drought now occurring in Somalia.

As the result of a civil war in March 2022, between the cities of Mogadishu and Beledwenye, the country is now left saddled in debt. Poverty is frequently observed, leaving the availability of resources in a very minuscule manner. In 2011, famine took the lives of over 200,000 people. As their debt grows, it leaves little  access to food.

Children under age five are 50% likely to grow up malnourished, with the number of children suffering from acute malnutrition rising to 1.8 million. Since recent harvests are left barren, around half of the population will be suffering from food shortages.

Now, there is an even bigger issue contributing to the already devastating state of Somalia.

Climate change has been a growing issue in the modern day. With rising temperatures threatening our food supply, and pollution and littering, the aspects of climate change vary. One of these aspects is extreme weather conditions, from floods, to droughts. Somalia has been facing an  immense drought, leaving 7,000 people to be displaced and searching for nutrition and resources, and 6.5 million citizens in desperate need of healthcare.

So, what can we do to help? There are thousands of charities to which you can donate. Including Save The Children: https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwip4aXlsoP7AhVBNK0GHYCkBIkYABADGgJwdg&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAASJeRo_j5heAjbh1pIneKPWZPZvbT8fr4qr-eR2mmN_jnXAsl79PU&sig=AOD64_37N9S-CQrW1qKAmBx6lI_7N8JG_w&q&adurl&ved=2ahUKEwjowp_lsoP7AhXWIDQIHUPsC_MQ0Qx6BAgHEAE

And of course, one of the most effective ways to spread awareness is to speak up. Talk about the subjects that are uncomfortable to talk about. Willful ignorance is the one drawback that will truly keep us as a society stagnant. These people suffer, when the world is capable of helping.

Spread awareness and find a way to help those in Somalia.
