Halloween movies are most known for their haunting and terrifying killers. Yet who is the most popular of all?

According to a poll of Lincoln-Way Central students, the most popular of all is, the classic, Michael Myers. Coming up second is the horrifying Ghost Face, known from the movie Scream, recognized by his classic ghost mask and all black attire. Finally, the third most popular would be the one and only Pennywise.

I am sure we all know the name Michael Myers, but do you know his story? Michael Myers is the main character from the Halloween series of slasher films. He first appears in the movie Halloween when he (a young boy) murders his elder sister, Judith Myers. Fifteen years later, he returns to fictiona Haddonfield, Illinois, to continue murdering many more teenagers. Michael Myers has appeared in thirteen films, as well as novels, multiple video games, and comic books.  Most recently, the last movie of the Halloween franchise was released this past month.  It’s popularity spans decades, so it is no wonder that Michael Myers is the most recognizable horror character.

Headed to second place we return to Ghost Face. Ghost Face is the main character in another movie with many sequels, Scream. He is primarily mute, yet he lets out his voice through the phone. Ghost Face has never had a certain face under his mask, usually behind the mask lies a teenager concealing their identity to commit the most horrible crime of all, murder. Although his face is never the same, his goal is to murder Sidney Prescott. Ghost Face has appeared in many movies and tv shows, videogames, and comic books.

Last but not least is the terrifying Pennywise, also known as the dancing clown. Pennywise is the main antagonist in the book turned movie, IT. He is introduced in the 1986 horror novel, IT, written by Stephen King. The character is an ancient evil entity which preys upon the children (and occasionally adults) of Derry, Maine. Around every 27 years, using powers that include the ability to shapeshift, manipulate reality, and go unnoticed by adults. The first that notice Pennywise is the “Losers club” which soon becomes his new prey. Pennywise appears in many terrifying movies, videogames, and art…and probably plenty of our nightmares.
