Ranked:

Every Oberweise ice cream flavor

Ranked%3A

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. But sometimes we don’t know what flavor to scream for. In this article, I will be rating every current ice cream flavor at one of our local ice cream parlors, Oberweis, so you will know what to try next. As an employee there, I have tasted every flavor. Also, I have gotten the opinions of some of my coworkers: Ava Paoletti, Eliz Jawor, Will Hincliffe and Alexa StockrahmEach ice cream flavor will be rated on the scoopabilty, originality, and, of course, the taste.

  1. Expresso Caramel Chip

Taste: 10

Scoopability: 9

Originality: 8

If you’re a fan of coffee, this flavor is for you. Filled with chocolate chunks and a caramel swirl, this flavor is addicting and always satisfying. Unlike many other flavors with a lot of mix ins, Expresso Caramel Chip maintains its consistency and is easy to scoop. This flavor ranks on Ava and Eliz’s top five flavors and is my all-time favorite flavor at Oberweis.

  1. Chocolate Lover’s Dream

Taste: 10

Scoopability: 8

Originality: 8

This flavor is a chocolate overload, but in a good way. Made with chocolate ice cream, brownie chunks, chocolate chunks, and a chocolate swirl, you’ll definitely be sick of chocolate after eating a scoop. However, this flavor is mouth-watering and holds its consistency. Alexa said enthusiastically, “Chocolate Lover’s Dream is my #1!”

  1. Cookies and Cream

Taste: 9

Scoopability: 7

Originality: 4

You can get Cookies and Cream anywhere, however, the flavor at Oberweis has a creamier taste than other stores. Although this flavor is frozen and hard to scoop, it is always refreshing. Eliz, Ava, and Will all rank Cookies and Cream in their top five.

  1. Chocolate Peanut Butter

Taste: 9

Scoopability: 3

Originality: 7

If you are a fan of peanut butter, this flavor is for you. Each scoop tastes like a bite out of a frozen Reece’s Cup. However, this flavor is an absolute nightmare to scoop because the peanut butter freezes. Despite this, Eliz and Alexa both rank it highly.

  1. Cookie Dough

Taste: 8

Scoopability: 8

Originality: 4

Who doesn’t like raw Cookie Dough? This flavor is classic and is always tasty. Both Eliz and Ava rank this flavor in their top five.

  1. Mint Chip

Taste: 8

Scoopability: 9

Originality: 5

If you’re a fan of mint, Mint Chip is a classic ice cream flavor that is always a great option when you don’t know what to get. It’s easy to scoop and the chocolate chips give it a nice texture. Alexa said it is one of her favorites.

  1. Black Raspberry Chocolate Chunk

Taste: 7

Scoopability: 8

Originality: 8

If you are feeling a fruity flavor, this one is for you. With black raspberry ice cream swirled with raspberry puree and filled with chocolate chips, the flavor is rich. It’s definitely different than other flavors and is a safe option if you want to try something new.

  1. Chocolate Chip

Taste: 7

Scoopability: 8

Originality: 5

This flavor is simple, yet still delicious. Although it’s just plain vanilla and chocolate chips, it’s a great option to mix with other flavors and add to sundaes or fudge brownies. Alexa ranks it highly, yet Ava detests, “Chocolate chip is weird.”

  1. Smores

Taste: 8

Scoopability: 6

Originality: 8

Smores is one of the newest flavors, and it did not disappoint. It contains chocolate ice cream with marshmallow swirls, chocolate chips, and a graham cracker flavor. It is the perfect scoop to top off a waffle cone.

  1. Cookie Dough Peanut Butter

Taste: 7

Scoopability: 4

Originality: 8

Mixing cookie dough with peanut butter, this flavor is definitely a hit. Ava said, “This flavor is great,” yet Eliz was not a fan. It has a unique taste, but it is extremely difficult to scoop because of the frozen peanut butter combined with frozen cookie dough chunks.

  1. Butter Pecan

Taste: 7

Scoopability: 7

Originality: 5

Butter Pecan has a very buttery taste, yet it is lacking in overall flavor. The pecans add a salty side, but there could be more of them. All in all, this is a simple flavor that is always a good option if you like nuts.

  1. Lemon Sorbet

Taste: 8

Scoopability: 5

Originality: 6

Lemon Sorbet is one of the only dairy free options on the menu, and it doesn’t disappoint. The flavor is fantastic and especially refreshing on a summer day, however, the texture is inconsistent. Sometimes it is too icy and other times it is extremely soft. Ava ranks this flavor highly. Eliz said, “I hate all the fruity flavors besides Lemon Sorbet.”

  1. Coffee

Taste: 7

Scoopability: 8

Originality: 5

Coffee is always a classic flavor that is great to combine with other ice cream, yet it is not original in any sense. This flavor at Oberweis tastes the same as the competition, and even from the grocery store.

  1. Chocolate Caramel Crunch

Taste: 8

Scoopability: 3

Originality: 7

Chocolate Caramel Crunch contains chocolate ice cream, caramel swirl, and chocolate chunks. The taste is comparable to Chocolate Lover’s Dream, but this flavor is extremely soft and hard to scoop. If Chocolate Caramel Crunch was easier to scoop, it would be ranked higher on the list.

  1. Honey Butter Cashew

Taste: 8

Scoopability: 2

Originality: 7

One of the only nut flavors, it has a very buttery and nutty taste that is refreshing. However, it is extremely soupy and cannot hold its shape in the slightest. Despite its flaws, Eliz and Ava both rank it highly. Ava said that “At first, I hated it. But I grew to like it,” and Eliz added, “I actually really liked it.”

  1. Coconut Chocolate Almond

Taste: 6

Scoopability: 7

Originality: 8

This is the only coconut flavor on the menu, containing coconut ice cream, almond flavor, and chocolate chips. It’s not bad, but you cannot taste the almond and it is kind of stringy. In my opinion, it would be better if it was just plain coconut ice cream.

  1. Birthday Cake

Taste: 6

Scoopability: 6

Originality: 6

Birthday Cake is perfect for you if you love sweet things, however, it is almost too sweet. The icing that is mixed into it can be overpowering at times, but when it is blended into a shake, it has a beautiful blue color and is overall tasty.

  1. Orange Sherbet

Taste: 7

Scoopability: 7

Originality: 6

This flavor is not very popular, yet it is pretty tasty. Orange Sherbet is exactly what it sounds like and is plain, but if you are looking for a simple fruity flavor, this one is for you.

  1. Chocolate Marshmallow

Taste: 7

Scoopability: 2

Originality: 6

Chocolate Marshmallow is supposed to be a step up from plain chocolate, but it really is not. The marshmallow flavor is masked by the chocolate, and it is difficult to scoop. The marshmallow makes it extremely soft in some spots, but the chocolate is extremely hard. Ava ranked this flavor low on her list, saying, “I hate scooping it.”

  1. Vanilla

Taste: 7

Scoopability: 7

Originality: 1

There is nothing special about Vanilla ice cream. It tastes great, and Will agrees, ranking it in his top five, but it is just a waste of money. Ava strongly asserted, “Who comes to an ice cream store to get the most boring flavor?”

  1. Chocolate

Taste: 7

Scoopability: 7

Originality: 1

Like Vanilla, Chocolate is just too simple of a flavor to choose from. It would be a waste to spend $4 on a scoop of chocolate when you can pick up a quart at a grocery store for less than that.

  1. Strawberry

Taste: 5

Scoopability: 6

Originality: 1

I’m a huge fan of strawberry ice cream in general, but Oberweis’s Strawberry just is not good. First, it does not have many strawberry chunks in it. Second, it tastes like strawberry yogurt, not strawberry ice cream. It’s disappointing, and you can get a better flavor for cheaper anywhere else.

  1. Brandy

Taste: 6

Scoopability: 3

Originality: 8

This alcohol flavored ice cream is original, and it mimics alcohol with a burning sensation, but it has an odd taste. The consistency is almost slimy and cannot hold its shape. None of my coworkers like this flavor. However, Brandy could be better if it was tweaked just a bit.

  1. Black Cherry

Taste: 5

Scoopability: 6

Originality: 4

Although the concept for Black Cherry is great, it was executed badly. It is an ugly pink color that tastes more like vanilla than cherry. It is also very soft and extremely melty on a warm summer day.

  1. Sweet Lemon Blackberry

Taste: 4

Scoopability: 7

Originality: 4

Sweet Lemon Blackberry sounds like a great flavor, but it is extremely disappointing. This flavor consists of lemon and blackberry puree swirled together, but it all tastes the same. Whether you taste a scoop of the lemon part or a scoop of the blackberry, it has the same weird taste. When blended into a shake, it is grey. Eliz ranks it as our worst flavor.

  1. Pineapple Sherbet

Taste: 5

Scoopability: 6

Originality: 4

Pineapple Sherbet could be improved greatly. It is extremely stringy and chunky to the point where the texture just deters the flavor all together. As a fan of pineapple, I was disappointed when I tried it and do not recommend it.

Seasonal:

  1. Peppermint

  Taste: 10

Scoopability: 7

Originality: 7

When it comes to the Holidays, who doesn’t like peppermint-flavored everything? Peppermint is a beautiful bright pink filled with candy cane pieces. Alone, it is outstanding, but it is also great to mix with other flavors, such as coffee or chocolate. Eliz ranks it as one of her favorites.

  1. Pumpkin

Taste: 9

Scoopability: 8

Originality: 7

Pumpkin flavor was the craze this year, so this flavor was a success. It tastes just like pumpkin pie filling, and the Pumpkin Sundae, which consisted of a waffle bowl, pumpkin ice cream, caramel, whipped cream, pecans, and cinnamon, was the perfect fall treat.

  1. Cinnamon

Taste: 9

Scoopability: 8

Originality: 8

Cinnamon is a classic flavor around the holidays, and it tastes even better in ice cream. It is perfect to mix with other holiday flavors and makes a great shake.

  1. Apple Pie

Taste: 7

Scoopability: 8

Originality: 9

If you are a fan of apple pie, this flavor mimics it perfectly. Apple Pie is delicious, yet it lacks the best part of apple pie—the warmth. This flavor matches perfectly with cinnamon and is a tasty shake.

  1. Eggnog

Taste: 7

Scoopability: 7

Originality: 7

Eggnog ice cream tastes just like regular eggnog, but frozen. It is good, but it isn’t special, and your craving could be easily satiated with a cold glass if eggnog instead.

  1. Bat Brew

Taste: 6

Scoopability: 8

Originality: 9

This fun purple and blue color just screams Halloween. It is a mixture of Birthday Cake and Oreo, which are two extremely sweet flavors separate. When combined, Bat Brew is almost overpoweringly sweet if you take more than one bite.

  1. Cotton Candy

Taste: 3

Scoopability: 6

Originality: 8

Cotton Candy was an extremely anticipated summer flavor, and although it is aesthetically pleasing, the flavor was lacking. It did not taste like cotton candy at all, and instead tasted like yogurt with blue crunchy candy.
