The Knights’ girls’ basketball program has had a strong start to the 2021-2022 season to say the least.  The Varsity team has a record of 6-3, Junior Varsity 3-5, Freshman B 1-2, and to cap it off, the Freshman A team is undefeated as of December 10th.

The Varsity Knights kicked off their season with a win at Hillcrest before coming back home to compete in the Lincoln-Way Central Tournament.  The Knights fell short in a tight game against Joliet West in their first game of the tournament, but they bounced back to defeat Minooka and Moline.  The Knights won home games against both Joliet Central and Lockport to finish off the month of November.

The Knights faced off against school rivals Lincoln-Way East on December 7th at home in their most exciting game of the season thus far.  The Knights and Griffins went back and forth with the lead throughout the lead with the Knights being down going into the fourth quarter.  With outstanding performances by Azyah Newson-Cole, Keira Hunt, Lina Panos, and Gracen Gehrke, the Knights were able to pull away in the fourth quarter.  Their win of 52-45 left everyone wondering “what’s a griffin?

Undeniably, the girls have an abundance of skill and talent, but they also have the confidence and team-community to match it.  The Knights’ Instagram page, @lwcgbb, has numerous photos and videos of the team having fun and bonding together.  Whether it is having team BBQs, supporting college basketball teams, or making videos publicizing their upcoming games, everyone always has a smile on their face.

The Knights’ season is far from over, but from what they have shown everybody thus far, it is safe to say the future is looking bright for Lincoln-Way Central.  In the words of the team’s Instagram bio, “The plaque will be in the building this year ??”.
