Movie review:

High School Musical

Synopsis – spoiler alert!

The movie starts on New Years Eve, where Troy Bolton (Zac Efron) and Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens) sing karaoke together. Eventually, Gabriella and Troy accidentally audition for the school musical. This makes Sharpay Evans (Ashley Tisdale) and her twin brother Ryan Evans (Lucas Grabell) very upset, because they were always leads in the school’s musicals. Troy’s teammate and best friend Chad Danforth (Corbin Bleu) is worried that the musical will distract Troy from the big basketball game. Gabriella recently joined the decathlon team at her new school, where she makes friends with Taylor Mckessie (Monique Coleman), and she thinks that Gabriella is more focused on the musical than their upcoming competition. At the same time, Ryan and Sharpay convince the music teacher to move callbacks to the same day as the decathlon and the basketball game. Then, Taylor, Chad, Gaberiella, and Troy work together to figure out a plan so that Troy and Gaberiella can attend the callbacks without having to sacrifice the decathlon and the basketball game. The plan works, and the whole school supports Troy and Gabriella’s auditioning for the school musical. In the end, Gabriella and Troy break the status quo of East High and become the school’s high school sweethearts.

Review

The High School Musical series is one of my favorite series. It portrays that a person does not have to stick to a stereotype. Additionally, it is acceptable to have many varying interests and talents. It also encourages classmates to support each other. I watched this movie with my friend, Emily Kuehl. Emily shares, “High School Musical is a movie every high school teenager should watch.” She also believes High School Musical is the best Disney Channel Original movie. In today’s world, Emily believes, “it is important to be who you truly are.” Emily rates High School Musical a 3.25/4 stars. Emily also shares, “I can’t wait to see the rest of the series!” Over the year I will also be reviewing High School Musical 2 and High School Musical 3. Stay tuned as I will continue to talk about how the star actors and actresses have progressed throughout the movies.
