Avengers: Endgame
what to watch before you see it
You’ve probably heard a lot about Endgame from social media and people you know, but what if you have not seen the other twenty-one Marvel movies leading up to the ultimate finale? Well, this article is for you. This article will explain the three movies I believe are necessary to watch in order to understand Endgame with comments from an interviewee who wishes to remain anonymous. I strongly advise you to watch all the Marvel movies in order before watching Endgame, so you could understand the little references and jokes. The experience is much more enjoyable if you know the characters on the screen, in my opinion.
Avengers (2012)
The original Avengers movie takes place in New York City, where Loki, who is Thor’s brother, is working for Thanos to retrieve the Tesseract, which contains one of the six infinity stones. The movie ends with a big fight between Loki and his alien army against the Avengers in New York City. It is the first time the Avengers team up and defeat a villain. My interviewee commented, “This movie is important to watch because it is the first time the Avengers are a team. Also, it is brought up a lot in Endgame.”
Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
In this movie, a scrawny kid from Brooklyn named Steve Rogers joins the army during WWII. Because of his strong will and bravery, he is chosen to be injected with a serum that turns him into a super soldier during a government experiment, and he earns the name Captain America due to his good acts. The movie follows him as he fights Hydra, who are basically the Nazis, interacts with the Tesseract, and makes the ultimate sacrifice of plunging the aircraft he is on into the ocean to save many. While all this is happening, he meets Peggy, who becomes his love interest. Seventy years after his sacrifice, he is found in ice and woken up. The interviewee explained, “I think that this movie is one of the most important to watch because it explains some of the things that Cap does in Endgame and is necessary to understand one of the last scenes of the movie.”
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
This movie follows Thanos, the mad titan, on his quest to retrieve all six infinity stones and wipe half of all life in the universe. He believes that the universe is overpopulated and the only way to fix it is to wipe out half of it. The only way he could do this is to retrieve all of the infinity stones and use their combined power to do virtually whatever he wants. Most of the superheroes in the MCU are in this movie, and they fight against Thanos to try to stop him. Even with all their best efforts, Thanos manages to retrieve all six stones and snaps away half of everyone, including some of our favorite heroes. The interviewee stated, “This movie is absolutely necessary to watch before watching Endgame. If you do not at least watch this movie, you will be completely lost.”
These movies are just three of twenty-one and obviously cannot explain everything that occurs in Endgame. They are just the three most included in Endgame and I think will help you the most in order to understand. I hope that you watch Avengers: Endgame soon and use these tips to enjoy it!
