Best

1. All I Want For Christmas is You
This song is the ultimate bop and we all know it. Some say it’s overrated, but people like it because it’s good and there’s nothing wrong with appreciating something that’s popular. Her vocals are astonishing- a range of smooth, soothing low to a chilling, vibrato high.
2. Sleigh Ride
Although this song wasn’t written as a Christmas song, nothing makes people think of Christmas like the familiar sleigh bells and cheerful lyrics that accompany the tune. Uplifting, cheesy, and cozily classic.
3. Father Christmas
Arguably the best alternative Christmas song, Father Christmas has all the usual rock elements and none of the Christmas cheer, except for the sleigh bells and orchestra bells. It’s original, woke, fun, and a good way to break up the classical Christmas songs on a playlist.
4. Last Christmas
Last Christmas is simple but delivers heartache in a beautiful way. Apart from the original, Helen Rohn claims the Ashley Tisdale cover, “Still bring a tears to my eyes. The emotional grasp on my soul is stronger than any man on this planet.”
5. Carol of the Bells
The versions vary extremely, so fans of any genre can find a cover to suit them.
6. Santa Tell Me
Another pop hit on the list, Ariana’s catchy single is a lighthearted contrast to alternative or caroling tunes. Joey Skala says, “I don’t listen to Christmas music often, but Santa Tell Me is a year-round bop.”
7. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
In all versions, this song rocks. Traditional and rock collide in this caroling tune. It’s extremely versatile to varying tempos and genres.
8. Ludacrismas
For those who like R&B, Ludacris remixes classic Christmas songs into one extended cut. Was it for a movie soundtrack? Yes, but art is more than how it makes its money; art is the joy it gives.
9. Let it Snow
Let it Snow has strong seasonal ties rather than religious ties but is a staple sing-along for the holiday season.
10. Winter Wonderland
Another great sing-along, Winter Wonderland brings joy to all. Emily Kuehl loves to break out into Winter Wonderland because “It really gets you in the Christmas spirit.”

Worst

  1. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
This song isn’t that bad, all things considered. It all depends on the version you’re listening to—good, wholesome, classic Rudolph is a fine song. The version with additions such as “like a light bulb” is a blight on this Earth.

    9. Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer
Another children’s classic. It’s a little bit of a bop, but only a little bit, and it inspired a terrible Christmas movie. This one is so bad it’s good, if anything.

    8. Little Drummer Boy
We get it. Rum pum pum pum.

    7. Santa Baby
This song is a little creepy, which might be forgivable if it were catchy in the slightest. Which it isn’t.

    6. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus
On the subject of creepy Christmas music, there’s this. Playing this song in front of kids in hopes that they will not figure out the truth is playing with fire.

    5. I’ll Be Home For Christmas
When I think “Christmas” I don’t think “slow and depressing,” but here we are.

    4. You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch
This really isn’t a Christmas song out of context—just teaches kids to roast one another. Stink. Stank. Stunk.

    3. Grown Up Christmas Wish
Music department head Mrs. Jackson says it all—“I enjoy the sentiment, but it’s just incredibly cheesy.”

    2. Christmas Time is Near
It sounds like someone is hurting a puppy.

    1.  Baby, it’s Cold Outside
Controversial. Horrible. Not even catchy. We as a society should really stop quoting it.
