Tommy Morgan accepts a win at his wrestling meet

Junior Tommy Morgan is currently 9-2 on the Junior Varsity Wrestling Team. This is his first-year wrestling for Lincoln-Way Central. He is coached by Tyrone Byrd, who is also new to the coaching position at Central after coaching for Lincoln-Way East for several years.

After winning several matches in the tournament on Saturday December 8, Tommy has been on a hot streak. The tournament held teams from Minooka, Washington, Ottawa, Lockport, and Plainfield East.  He is currently in the 132lb weight class and doesn’t plan on moving up. “It’s really easy to eat a lot an go up in weight class, but it takes strength to fight the urge to hold back on eating,” Tommy said.

At the moment, he is fighting junior Teddy Kucaba for the Varsity Spot in his weight class. “It’s tough because he has more wrestling experience than me,” Tommy said, “But I’m working hard towards taking over his spot.” Morgan credits some of his success to his Human Performance class where he lifts weights daily. “It really helps to be able to spend time getting stronger in class and then later at practice, I can worry more about technique and my technical ability” Tommy said about his success. “I’ve really noticed how much stronger I’ve gotten since the beginning of the school year.” Tommy has learned from his losses and hopes to keep performing at a high level for the rest of the season
